WHY DOES MY ⭐️ NEED A CLEANSER?

A century ago, washing one’s body daily with suds became the norm. Indoor plumbing was no longer an inaccessible expense. Dove and Dial were buying up ad space, aligning a rich lather with a cleaner clean. Cleanliness as godliness, et cetera, et cetera.

Fast forward to 2025: Hemorrhoids, fissures, and itchy crevices are the norm. Is there a connection here?

MORE SUDS, MORE PROBLEMS

Traditional soaps, shampoos, and body washes contain harsh surfactants. Born of the laundry detergent industry, surfactants over-clean, grabbing dirt and your skin’s own proteins and lipids. With long-term use on our skin, surfactants bring a host of negative side effects:

Damaged Lipids (crucial to your skin’s natural barrier)
Disrupted Microbiome & pH
Increased Sensitivity
Itchy, Tight Skin
Increased Risk of Microtears & Infection

For those reasons, Hole Cleanser had to work completely differently. It still had to work well, though—eliminating odor and removing unwanted dirt and debris. Effective, but gentle cleansing, and a healthier skin barrier afterwards. Without the use of surfactants. It required a different mindset in the lab and a completely different ingredient toolbox.

FIRST OF ITS KIND

Just like Hole Serum, Hole Cleanser is a totally original formula. Nothing off the shelf. Meticulously crafted by our now in-house chemist, this combination of ingredients took hundreds of hours to develop—and the R&D process was full of false starts and pivots.

Every iteration brought us closer to the final custom formula. The end result is a thick, rich texture that soothes on contact. It’s made with high-end ingredients, many of which are typically reserved for luxury skincare, and a non-ionic formulation.

NON-IONIC: No net charge in their formulation.

Surfactants are supercharged molecules that get things clean, but they can also leave your skin tight, itchy, and out of balance.

Instead, we opted for a Coco & Cetearyl Glucoside Blend—a non-ionic cleansing + emulsifying system that lifts away impurities without stripping the barrier your skin actually needs.

Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Oil and Panthenol repair barrier function.

Ube Extract soothes, supports the microbiome, & imparts a natural violet hue.

WHY UBE?

Ube is a vibrant purple yam native to the Philippines and core to many traditional dishes in Filipino and SE Asian cuisine. It is rich in anthocyanins—a powerful class of antioxidants—which add soothing, protective qualities when applied to the skin.
